Serta
Located in the south-western part of Golok, Serta stands as a Nyingma stronghold.
Also called Serthal or Serthang, Serta is mainly structured around the valley of the Ser Chu, which rises in the western part of the region and flows west to east, before merging downstream first with the Do Chu and later with the Mar Chu. Serta is also traversed by several other rivers, including the Nyi Chu and the Da Chu, whose valleys run roughly parallel from north to south.
The main Nyingma lineages established in Serta are those of Katok (Taktsé Samdrup, Shyichen Kharmar Sangngak Tengyé Ling), Pelyul (Nubzur), Longchen Nyingtik (Dodrubchen Yarlung Pémakö) and the Düdjom Tersar, for which it holds a very special place.
It was in Serta that Düdjom Lingpa was born, first trained, revealed his Zabsang Khandro Nyingtik terma cycle, established Lama Rung, and later founded Dartsang Kalzang. And it was also in Serta (in Nubzur) that Chöjé Dampa Jikmé Püntsok was first trained, and later founded Larung Gar.
