Longchen Nyingtik
The 'Heart Essence of the Vast Expanse' is a cycle of Dzogchen teachings revealed as mind terma by Rigdzin Jikmé Lingpa (1730–1798), who received it in a visionary transmission from wisdom dakinis in 1757 during retreat at Pelri, the teachings then transcribed following three successive visions of Longchen Rabjam at Chimpu near Samyé. Representing a synthesis of Tibet's two primary Dzogchen lineages—the Vima Nyingtik and Khandro Nyingtik—it has become one of the most widely practiced Nyingma terma cycles, transmitted through Jikmé Lingpa's four principal heart-sons and disseminated across Tibet, Kham, and Amdo.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
