Mar Chu
smar chu
The Mar Chu is the major river in the eastern part of Golok. Most of the monasteries and numerous sacred places are located on its banks. It flows first east to west, then turns south. South, the Mar Chu and the Do Chu merge, and the river becomes known as the Gyalrong Gyalmo Ngul Chu (Ch. Dadu), itself a major tributary of the Dri Chu (Yangtsé). As such, the Mar Chu Chu is an indirect tributary of the Yangtsé river.

Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
