Located in Dzachukha, the valley of the Dza Chu, Dzagyal Püntsok Norbu Ling was the last residence of the Longchen Nyingtik lineage holder Jikmé Gyalwé Nyugu (1765–1843, a foremost disciples of Rigdzin Jikmé Lingpa (1730-1798).

After the passing of Jikmé Gyalwé Nyugu, the monastery was supported by his close disciple, Dza Paltrül Orgyen Jikmé Chökyi Wangpo (1808-1887), one of the most illustrious spiritual teachers of the nineteenth century. The place naturally became the seat of the incarnations of both Jikmé Gyalwé Nyugu and Dza Paltrül.

As such, it was the main residence of Dza Tsampa Trulkü Kunzang Dechen Dorjé (1845?-1928?) and of Patrül Namkha Jikmé (1888-1960). Düdjom Lingpa visited Dzagyal Püntsok Norbu Ling in 1877, for the investiture of his son Khyentsé Trülku Dzamling Wangyal, who had been recognized as an incarnation of Do Khyentsé Yéshé Dorjé.
