The Dri Chu (Yangtze), which is known in the West as The Blue River, is third-longest river in the world. Its watershed is in the Dang La mountains, in Kham.
In the west and south, this wild and pristine region of Golok welcomes not the actual source of the Dri Chu but the watershed of two of its main left bank tributaries: the Gyalrong Gyalmo Ngul Chu (Ch. Dadu), whose sources are the Ser Chu, Do Chu and Mar Chu; and the Nyak Chu (Ch. Yalong), whose sources are the Dza Chu, Da Chu and Nyi Chu.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
