One of the most important left-bank tributaries of the Dri Chu (Yangtse), the Gyalrong Gyalmo Ngul Chu (Ch. Dadu) rises in the heart of Golok. There the Nyenpo Yutsé range divides the watershed, the north side flowing into the Ma Chu and the south side into the Gyalrong Ngul Chu.

The headwaters of the Ser Chu, Do Chu, and Mar Chu flow southward into the Gyalrong Ngul Chu (‘The Princess of the Silver Waters’). For centuries, the Gyalmo Ngul Chu has marked a significant cultural and geopolitical boundary. Known in Chinese as the Dadu River, it has long been recognized as the historical dividing line between Kham to the west and Sichuan to the east. The confluence of tributaries and traditions in this region reflects the deep interweaving of landscape, history, and spiritual geography that defines the Tibetan borderlands.
