The third most important mountain in Golok is Yungdrung Chaktsé (‘Exalted Iron Peak of the Eternal Swastika’)[1]. Located in Golok’s far southeast, it presides over Golok’s central Mar Chu Valley, protecting the former Bönpo-Buddhist realm of Wangchen Bum[2] from invaders while ensuring the prosperity of the region’s inhabitants, livestock, and spiritual traditions. Yungdrung Chaktsé rises above the upper Mar Chu Valley in an area known as Martö Rizi, one of Golok’s original territories connected with the Horkor tribe.
The mountain is the realm of Yungdrung Chaktsé (Deity).
Endnotes
- ↑ Yungdrung (g.yung drung) is the Tibetan term for the swastika, an ancient symbol used in Yungdrung Bön and Indian traditions. In this context, it symbolizes eternity, indestructibility, and unchanging wisdom. It is often equated with the Sanskrit ‘svastika’, but in Bön, it has a distinctly spiritual and cosmological connotation—signifying the eternal truth and teachings.
- ↑ Wangchen Bum was one of the three kingdoms of Wangchen located on the ancestral territory of Golok’s Horkor tribe and now located in Golok’s Padma prefecture.
