Along with its counterpart Yak, which is just in front of Tak on the opposite bank of the Mar Chu, Chaktsé Tak Yak are the gatekeepers of the sacred mountain of Yungdrung Chaktsé.
Tak (‘Tiger’) and Yak (‘Yak’) are both small mountains and the residence of local protectors who are part of the entourage of the local deity Yungdrung Chaktsé (Deity). On the stone outcroppings of Tak, one can find very ancient drawings of animals such as tigers and yaks, which may be symbols of offerings during the time of Bön practices. The hermitage of Anam Jadralwa Chöying Püntsok is located on Tak.
