a mdo

Also known as Do-mé, Amdo is the North-eastern part of the Tibetan Plateau. In the Imperial time of Tibet, it was considered one of Tibet's three major provinces, the other two being Kham and Ü-Tsang.

In 1724, Qing Emperor Yongzheng defeated the Khoshut Mongols who controlled most of the area around Kokonor Lake (Tib. Tso Ngönpo, ‘Blue Lake’), traditionally part of the Tibetan region of Amdo to the north of Golok. The outcome of this strategic movement was Qing-controlled Kokonor Province—a region that was renamed Qinghai in 1928 during the period of the Chinese Republic and centered around the city of Xining.
