Both the name of a Nyingma monastery and the name of a whole tribe of the Pema Bum division of Golok, Wangda Monastery is located on the left banks of the Mar Chu, in the Pema Bum area of Golok, just upstream from the city of Tsédö, where is located Tsidma Monastery, and the city of Markok. Further downstream—south-east—on the Mar Chu, is Mardo Tashi Chöling.

As was the case with the Horkor, the Wangda clan brought several students to Düdjom Lingpa, including the great scholar Alak Do Ngak Gyatso, and Lingtrul Pema Lungtok Gyatso who wrote a commentary on the Tröma Nakmo practice of the Saraha Nyingtik.
