Dzongsar Tashi Lhatsé
rdzong sar bkra shis lha rtse
Founded in 1253 by Chögyal Pakpa (1235-1280), the hierarch of the Sakya school who was recognized in 1253 as the ruler of Tibet by Kublai Khan (1215-1294), Dzongsar Trashi Lhatsé is a Sakya monastery located in Dergé, Kham. It became the main seat of Jamyang Khyentsé Wangpo (1820-1892) and Jamyang Khyentsé Chökyi Lodrö (1893-1959).
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
