Akyong Khenpo Lobzang Dorjé

Born in 1893, Akyong Khenpo Lobzang Dorjé was the fourth abbot of Palyul Dartang Monastery. During his time, Palyul Dartang followed a curriculum largely based on Gélukpa teachings.
Akyong Khenpo thus studied extensively the teachings of Tsongkhapa but also went on to study under numerous Nyingma masters, among them Gara Terchen Péma Düdul Wangchuk Lingpa and Düdjom Lingpa’s son Dodrubchen Jikmé Tenpé Nyima.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
