Palyul Dartang
dpal yul dar thang/
Located in the eastern part of Golok, Palyul Dartang was founded in 1857 or 1882 by the Second Karma Kuchen Karma Gyurmé Ngedön Tendzin, the seventh throne-holder of the Palyul mother monastery in Kham. Despite historically being much larger than Palyül in Kham, it is considered a branch of Palyül (Kham).
In the late 1910s, both Trülku Drimé Özer and Déwé Dorjé Séra Khandro journeyed there.
Today, Palyül Dartang houses about 1,200 Nyingma monks and 30 tulkus, with Dartang Trülku (Tarthang Tulku) among its most known figures in the West.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
