Tso Ngönpo
msto sngon po, mtsho khri shor rgyal mo
The largest lake of the Tibetan Plateau, Tso Ngönpo (aka Kokonor Lake, ‘The Blue Lake’) is traditionally part of the Tibetan region of Amdo, to the north of Golok. In 2008, it had a surface area of 4,317 km2(1,667 sq mi), an average depth of 21 m (69 ft), and a maximum depth of 25.5 m (84 ft).
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
