An anti-foreign, anti-imperialist, and anti-Christian uprising in North China between 1899 and 1901.
Towards the end of the Qing dynasty, the Boxer Rebellion was an anti-foreign, anti-imperialist, and anti-Christian uprising in North China between 1899 and 1901. The movement was led by the Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, known as the "Boxers" in English due to many of its members having been fully trained in Chinese martial arts, which at the time were referred to as "Chinese boxing". The movement was defeated in 1901 by the Eight-Nation Alliance of foreign powers. At that time, Düdjom Lingpa was mainly residing in Dartsang Kalzang.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
