Tersung
Tersung are the protectors of a specific terma. The bonds is made after the shokser (yellow scrolls) has been placed in caskets, when the concealer of the terma (like Guru Rinpoche) entrusts this terma to wisdom protectors such as Ekadzati, Dorje Lekpa, and Za Rahula or local protectors. Through this act, those protectors are bound by oath to several tasks: first to guard the terma from negative influences or people; second, to deliver the terma only to the destined tertön at the appropriate time and in the appropriate circumstances; third, to protect the followers and lineage holders of this specific terma once it has been revealed.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
