Rebkong is the name of a region in Amdo, in the northeastern part of the Tibetan Plateau.
It became known for the exquisite quality of its art, and especially for its communities of powerful Nagkpas and Ngakmas, lay practitioners of Tantric Buddhism. In the eight century, Guru Rinpoché himself had predicted that the Rebkong community of ngakpas would become—as Tsédrub Lama Tharchin (1936-2013) later said—the inheritors and foremost proponents of tantric wrathful activities.
