As the lord of the Nöjins—one of the eight classes of gods and demons—Nöjin Shenpa Marnak ('Drak Red Noxious Spirit Butcher') is one of the closest chökyong (protectors) of Düdjom Lingpa and of all the activities and practitioners of the Düdjom Tersar lineage.

As early as 1839, in Yarchen, Nöjin Shenpa Marnak appeared to four-year-old Düdjom Lingpa and gave him a long-life arrow with silk ribbons. Throughout his life, Ddüjom Lingpa had many encounters with Nöjin Shenpa Marnak, as did many of his family members (like Trülku Drimé Özer). During the 20th century, Düdjom Jigdrel Yéshé Dorjé, the body incarnation of Düdjom Lingpa, also had many vivid proofs and experiences of the activity of Nöjin Shenpa Marnak, as did his son Dungsé Trinlé Norbu, and many other Düdjom Tersar lineage holders, like Tsédrub Lama Tharchin.
