Minyak Zhakdra Lhatsé
mi nyag bzhag bra lha rtse'
A sacred mountain in the southern reaches of the country of Minyak, Minyak Zhakdra Lhatsé is located in the eastern part of Kham. It has deep connections with Guru Rinpoché and Gésar of Ling. Minyak Shyakdrak Lhatsé is also the ancestral home of the Chakung tribe. It derives its named from an old Chinese iron mine on the flanks of the mountain: Chak means Iron, and Kung means extraction, hence Chakung.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
