Dru Lhagyal Bum
The Golokpas trace their history back at least 600 years to the time of Dru Lhagyel Bum in the fourteenth century.
According to tradition, he originally came from an area south of Nangchen in Kham, at a place named Drilung (འབྲི་རླུང་), but together with a small group of households he migrated to a valley named Gukho (འགུ་ཁོ་) in the Palyul district of Sichuan.
Dru Lhagyel Bum held faith in both the Katok lineage of Nyingma Buddhism and Bön.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
