A Gélukpa monastery in eastern Kham, Dab Yangteng provided monastic training and ritual activity amid the turbulent regional politics of local rulers, Qing ambans, and Khampa chieftains.

It existed from at least the mid-seventeenth century when the Forty-Seventh Ganden Tripa, Lobzang Chöpel, took vows there as a novice monk.

Like many monasteries in Kham, Dab Yangteng endured suppression and later partial restoration and retains symbolic significance as part of the network that produced high-ranking Gélukpa lamas and upheld Tibetan monastic scholarship in eastern Tibet.
