Anam Thubten grew up in Golok (Tibet) and at an early age began to practice in the Nyingma tradition of Tibetan Buddhism in Mardo Tashi Gakyil. As a boy, he was recognized as an incarnation of Anam Jadralwa Chöying Püntsok. Among his many teachers, his most formative guides were Lama Tsultrim Gyatso, Khenpo Chöpel, and Lama Garwang.
He is the founder and spiritual advisor of Dharmata Foundation, teaching widely in the U.S. and abroad. He is also the author of various articles and books in both the Tibetan and English language.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
