Akyab is both a clan and a mountain range located in Serta, on the right bank of the Ser Chu, just north of Larung Gar.
Several close disciples of Düdjom Lingpa belonged to the Akyab clan: Akyab Lama Karma Döndrup (19th-20th) and Akyab Za Kalzang Drönma (1865? – 1901?), the third consort of Düdjom Lingpa and the mother of his four youngest children: Trülku Lhachen Tobgyal (1884-1942), Paltrül Namkha Jikmé (1888-1960), Trülku Dorjé Dradül (1892-1959) and Namkar (1891+-19??).
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
