Uma—‘Madhyamaka’ in Sanskrit—refers to both the ‘Middle Way’ school of philosophy as well as to the texts that express this ultimate meaning such as the Mulamadhyamaka-karika by Nagarjuna. In the Nyingma tradition, different approaches to Madhyamaka have historically been studied and practiced such as Yogacara-Madhyamaka in the early days following Shantarakshita, Shentong Madhyamaka under Kongtrul and most dominantly, Prasanghika-Madhyamaka as emphacized by Longchenpa and taught by Jü Mipam Namgyal.
