Terdzé
gter rdzas/
In the terma tradition, Terdzé are the physical treasure objects associated with sater (earth termas), often crafted from extraordinary or unearthly materials and substances. Some are fashioned from eight or sixteen precious materials formed into images with remarkable artistry—many created miraculously by Guru Rinpoché himself, while others were made by gods, nagas, and yakshas at his instruction, and some simpler pieces were made by human beings.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
