The non-sectarian movement emerged in 19th-century Eastern Tibet (Kham) to counter growing sectarianism between buddhist schools and to preserve diverse teachings. Led by Jamyang Khyentsé Wangpo, Jamgön Kongtrul Lodrö Thayé, and Chokgyur Lingpa, it promotes receiving and studying multiple lineages while remaining grounded in one's own tradition, emphasizing harmony, dialogue, and preserving vanishing teachings. The Rimé movement led to a revival of many transmissions the were on the verge of extinction and to the production of innumerable texts.
