Flag of the Republic of China.
Established after the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1911.
Based in Mainland China from 1912 to 1949, the Republic of China was established after the fall of the Qing dynasty in 1911 (It was first established on 1 January 1912 after the 1911 Revolution against the Manchu-led Qing dynasty) and lasted until 7 December 1949, when its ruling party, Kuomintang (KMT), was defeated by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). After this, the CCP established the People's Republic of China (PRC) on the mainland while the Republic of China (the KMT) retreated its central government to Taiwan, which it controlled after Japan’s surrender in WWII.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
