Also known by his temple name Emperor Shizong of Qing, Qing Emperor Yongzheng (1678–1735) was the fourth emperor of the Qing dynasty, and the third Qing emperor to rule over China proper. A hard-working ruler, he aimed to create a more effective government, cracked down on corruption and reformed the personnel and financial administration. Militarily, Yongzheng continued his father's efforts to consolidate Qing's position in Outer Mongolia and Tibet through force.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
