Ngoring Tso
Golok is also the home of hundreds of lakes, which continuously reflect the immense sky, the moving clouds and the surrounding mountain landscapes. As a large freshwater lake in the Ma Chu catchment, in the southeast of Qinghai Province, Ngoring Tso ('The Long Blue Lake') stands at an elevation of 4268 m.
The lake is 610.7 km 2, length is 32.3 km and mean width 18.9 km (max 31.6 km), with a drainage area of 18,188 km 2. It is located just south-east of the Amnyé Machen range.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
