Kyaring Tso
skya ring mtsho
Kyaring Tso is a large freshwater plateau lake in the upper reaches of the Ma Chu (Ch. Huang Hé), in Golok (nowadays southeast of Qinghai Province, on the border between Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture and Golok Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture).
Standing at an elevation of 4292 m (14,081 f), with a length of 35 km (21.75 m) and a mean width of 15 km (9.32 m), the Tso Kyaring has a surface of 526 km2 (203.09 mi2), with a drainage area of 8,161 km2 (3150.98).
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
