Kadak Trekchö, meaning "primordial purity, cutting through solidity," is the first of the two main practices in Dzogchen, focusing on the direct recognition of the mind's fundamentally pure, empty nature that has been pristine from the very beginning. Through this practice, the practitioner cuts through (chö) the tension or solidity (trek) of conceptual elaboration and dualistic grasping by resting in naked awareness (rigpa), recognizing that all phenomena are primordially pure (ka dag) and free from inherent existence. The practitioner is first introduced to primordial purity by a master and then develops stability in its recognition.
