An influential master of the Nyingma tradition, Gyalsé Shenpen Tayé (1800–1855 or 1869/70) was strongly connected with Dzogchen Monastery. In 1842, he rebuilt it and established a new college of philosophical studies, the Shri Singha Shédra. Thus, he played a pivotal role in revitalizing Nyingma scholarship in Eastern Tibet.
