Located on the banks of the Mar Chu, the Gyédro Chörten—the stupa of Gyédro—is counted among the sacred places where Düdjom Lingpa discovered termas objects related to his Zabsang Khandro Nyingtik terma cycle. Among the other places of this terma cycle are Shadrak Dorje Dzong (on the banks of the Ser Chu), the Potsong Chörten, Tashi Gomang and Chakri Öbar (all three on the banks of the Mar Chu).
During the Cultural Revolution, many and most of the stupas in the area were destroyed but somehow, the base of the Gyédro Chörten remained.

Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
