Known as Vimalamitra in Sanskrit, Drimé Shenyen was one of the most learned Indian Buddhist masters to travel to Tibet in the ninth century, where he taught extensively for thirteen years and composed and translated numerous texts.
The quintessence of his teaching is known as the Vima Nyingtik, one of the nyingtik. (heart-essence) cycles of Dzogchen. He promised to return to Tibet every hundred years as an emanation to further the teaching of Dzogchen, and departed for Wutai Shan mountain in China, where he remains in the Jalü Powa Chenpo (the rainbow body of great transference) until manifesting complete enlightenment at the end of this fortunate aeon.
