Located in the Drak Valley, south of Lhasa, in Central Tibet, the complex of caves of Drak Yangdzong (The Clifftop Fortress) was blessed when Guru Rinpoché practice there Yamantaka, the wrathful aspect of Manjushri, thus rendering the place identical to the awakened body of the buddhas.
After staying here in retreat, Guru Rinpoché hid in the mountain several termas for later fortunate disciples. Guru Rinpoché also sent to one of his close disciples, Nubchen Sangyé Yéshé and Nanam Dorjé Düdjom to undertake meditation retreats in the caves.
