Dayik
One of "symbolic scripts" that include both dakini and non-dakini scripts, serving as keys for future tertöns to unlock and decode the hidden treasure teachings.
“Symbolic scripts”, dayik include both dakini scripts (likely ancient scripts that in our times are illegible except to highly realized practitioners or those tertöns with transmission of the particular terma) and non-dakini scripts (such as Tibetan, Sanskrit, and other Indian languages), and range in content from brief word triggers to historical indications or contemporary events that awaken the terma, with some rare cases presenting complete texts invariably written in Tibetan. These symbolic scripts were inscribed by Guru Rinpoche's realized disciples or occasionally by Guru Rinpoché himself to serve as keys for future tertöns to unlock and decode the hidden treasure teachings.
Since the early 8th century, Tibetans and Himalayan people have treasured "Namtars" as written or spoken narratives that demonstrate the realization of the Buddhist path by exceptional practitioners. These namtars, or spiritual biographies, serve as inspirational guides on the path to enlightenment.
Today, Namtars Foundation aims to record, preserve, and freely offer the world a written and electronic treasury of the oral wisdom of Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhism.
